New headmistress Karen Fisher has her hands full dealing with Waterloo Road's newest family - two previously home-schooled pupils, Ruth and Jonah Kirby, and their warring parents. Unhappy attending a mainstream school, Ruth attempts to get expelled from Waterloo Road and when this fails she runs away, inadvertently placing her life in danger. Chris has his own problems when he discovers the girl he slept with last night is actually one of his new sixth form pupils, Jess Fisher - and she happens to be Karen's daughter.

Jess becomes jealous as Karen and Chris grow closer professionally and sabotages their friendship by publishing a vicious article in the school newspaper. Sam is glad to be back in school after her suspension and tries to make amends with Lauren.

Bex Fisher refuses to open up to her family about what happened to her when she ran away.

Tom's recovery is tested as he is forced to deal with the fallout and try to correct Wayne's attitude towards women. Elsewhere, Sam and Finn's mutual antagonism develops in an unexpected way.

Finn and Ronan's party in an abandoned mill is the talk of the school, but the boys' bragging ends up alienating the only two girls they want to show up: Vicki MacDonald and Sambuca Kelly. Later, at the party, events escalate out of control, and it is up to Tom to save the day.

Meanwhile, Denzil's latest 'stunt' places his own safety in jeopardy.
