Mountain Vets takes viewers to the ancient Kingdom of Mourne, where animals out number people ten to one, and where no two days are the same for the busy mountain vets.Rising up from lakeshore lowlands to Mountain peaks, the Mourne area is well known for its stunning natural beauty and traditional country life - and it is here we will follow the work of nine mountain vets, several nurses and stable hands in three very different vet practices, observing as they care for a diverse range of animals in clinics, on farms and smallholdings. From old-hand to new recruits working together, the three practices cover the whole Mourne Mountain area, responding to over 100 clinic cases and call outs a day. From a rare five-legged calf to emergency surgery on a horse, overweight cats and rescued seals, the doors are constantly revolving with an array of unusual and unexpected cases for the vets to treat. And though things might not always go according to plan and tragedies do happen, the Mountain Vets do everything they can for the animals in their care.
Vet Cahir is surprised by an unexpected turn of events while helping a pregnant ewe, Nuala amputates a calf's toe to save its life, and Daisy treats a dog that may have swallowed rat poison.

As winter morphs into spring, lambing and calving keeps the team busy out on the farms. However, their small animal clinic is also packed with pets and Martin Fitzpatrick - the man who founded the practice 35 years ago - faces a difficult case concerning a Highland terrier. Young vet Darren is called out on an emergency to a farm where a prize cow is struggling to deliver a calf. An examination reveals it's simply too big to come out naturally. Darren decides the safest option, for both the cow and the calf, is to perform an emergency Caesarean section. It's a risky operation, but without it, the cow will die.

Some antibiotics and a dose of anti-inflammatories will help the lamb back on its feet. However, vet Maeve notices its eyes are milky white and she has to use all her expertise and knowledge to save the lamb's sight.
