Welcome to Prince of Wales Island off the coast of Alaska where, around a tiny cove called Port Protection, some 100 people eke out an existence. It's a tough life, but one the locals seem to love. Take Sam Carlson, whose boots are leaking so he makes some mink traps, catches a couple, skins them and renders their fat to slather on his boots. Just one story in the opener to this series about living alongside nature in the raw.
Gary Muehlberger works to fall a massive tree to restock his firewood, Mary Miller has an unexpected guest, and Curly Leech takes his dog on its first goose hunt.
