    In 1944 the Felwood family decide that it is time for them to move on as Lightfields holds too many memories of Lucy. Dwight is close to hitting his breaking point and decides to unburden himself about what happened that night with Lucy but it looks like his confession could have come too late. Harry and Eve realise that they need to put the events of the summer behind them so that thay can make the most of the time they have left together before Harry has to leave to fight in the war. Recent events in 1975 have forced Vivien to come to a decision and she informs Clare that it is time for them to go home. Clare goes to the beach to say goodbye to Nick and it becomes evident that Vivien hasn’t been totally honest with her daughter. Luke goes missing at the farm in the present day and it is believed that Pip was right and that Lucy has taken him. Lucy is not the only danger to Luke though as Paul is beginning to unravel and it looks like he is ready to take some drastic measures to see his son. After all these years, it could finally be time for the truth about what happened that night to be revealed.

    In 1994 following Harry’s discovery of the letter, Eve decides to say goodbye to the farm but Pip manages to persuade her to stay. Lucy’s death is still haunting them all and life is becoming increasingly painful. In 1975, Vivien is preoccupied with the unexplained goings on in the house and she is starting to feel concerned that Lucy is out to get her. Tom informs her that Lucy died in a fire and Vivien starts to wonder if she had something to do with it. In the present day, Paul is loosing it and anxiety is high at Lightfields as the custody battle is taking its toll on them all. Pip makes Luke promise to tell him if Lucy comes to see him again. Pip is later forced to face his past.

Albert, who is finding Eve’s presence in the house difficult, refuses to listen. Vivien has discovered a letter Eve wrote to Lucy on the day of her death. In 1975, Clare is intrigued about Vivien’s time in Suffolk as a child but she feels reluctant to dig up the past. One morning though Vivien discovers typing on her typewriter that she knows she didn’t write. In 2012, Luke puts himself in danger by beginning a fire. Pip is concerned that this is Lucy’s doing and he is scared she is trying to hurt his great grandson.

Eve takes a look around the smoldering wreckage of the barn and discovers Dwight’s petrol lighter and decides to confornt him. In 1975, Clare is concerned about Vivien and is relieved after her dad shows up for the weekend. He thinks that Vivien is on the verge of a breakdown, something that has happened before, and wants her to go home and get treatment. There is a terrifying moment in the modern day after Luke goes missing and is found sitting by a grave in the churchyard. Pip realises that the ghost is communicating with his great grandson. The grave belonged to Lucy Felwood and it is getting harder and harder for Pip to keep up his pretense that she never existed.

Lucy becomes increasingly drawn to Dwight while her childhood friend, Tom, can only watch jealously from the side-lines.During a fateful summer evening, a fire rips through the hay barn and a family and local community are torn apart by grief. The events of that night hold the key to a mystery that will haunt many generations to come.
