Show Summary

Match of the Day 2 (otherwise known as MOTD2) is a football highlights programme shown on BBC Two in the United Kingdom. It was created in 2004 when the BBC regained the right to broadcast Premier League highlights.
Broadcast on Sunday evenings, usually later than 10 p.m., it is advertised as a "light-hearted look at the Premier League's action", referring to its more fan focused presentational style than the Saturday night version. Launched with an anchor of Adrian Chiles and analysis from two pundits. Adrian Chiles became popular in this role. In 2010 he was replaced by Colin Murray who left Channel 5 to take up the position at the beginning of the 2010/11 season and to also host the BBC World Cup coverage in 2010.

Unai Emery has worked wonders at Villa, transforming his side into one of the top flight's most exciting outfits. Match of the Day 2 - S2023E33

Mark Chapman introduces all the goals and highlights from Sunday's two Premier League matches, including the clash between Newcastle United and Manchester United at St James' Park.

It's a repeat of February's EFL Cup final, which Manchester United won 2-0 to give Erik ten Hag his first trophy in charge of the club, so the Magpies will be keen to avenge that Wembley defeat.

The day's other game was between West Ham and Southampton and could prove pivotal in the race for Premier League survival. It's a match-up that has often provided goals, including last season when Saints travelled back to the south coast with a 3-2 victory.

Mark Chapman introduces highlights of the day's two Premier League matches, comprising the north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham and Southampton's clash with Wolves.

Arsenal came from behind to beat Spurs 2-1 in March, but for the fifth consecutive season they ended the year below their rivals in the table. The Gunners spent heavily to strengthen their squad in the summer, and the pressure is on boss Mikel Arteta to produce results sooner rather than later. Tottenham, meanwhile, managed to hold on to star striker Harry Kane despite interest from Manchester City, and their new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will be optimistic his squad is good enough for a top-four finish.

Nuno's former club Wolves will be hoping to extend their good recent record against Southampton. The Molineux club – now coached by Bruno Lage – have lost one of six league matches against Saints since promotion in 2018.

Mark Chapman presents highlights from today's three Premier League games, including a mouthwatering clash between Tottenham and Chelsea.

This fixture has developed into one of the fieriest in the top flight and has seen some notable battles over recent years. Chelsea currently have the upper hand, and they have won both of their league matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium without conceding a goal.

There was another fascinating encounter in London today as West Ham faced Manchester United. The Hammers may have won just seven of their previous 50 Premier League matches against the Red Devils, but David Moyes's side will be confident of a rare victory over their Manchester rivals given their impressive form over the last 12 months.

Leicester City were also in action today as they travelled south to take on Brighton. The show will also include all the goals from Saturday's Premier League matches.

Mark Chapman presents highlights of the day's two Premier League matches. In the first match of 2017, Spurs face the short trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford. Tottenham have never lost to Watford in the Premier League and were 2-1 victors in the corresponding fixture last season - a game which also took place over the festive period. In the later kick-off, Arsenal take on Crystal Palace at the Emirates. Dauntingly, the Eagles have only won two of 32 all-time league meetings home and away against the Gunners.

Mark Chapman presents highlights of today's Premier League game between Swansea and Chelsea. This match pits Swansea's Italian manager Francesco Guidolin against compatriot Antonio Conte, who took over as Chelsea boss after guiding Italy to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016. Conte has recruited players such as N'Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi as he looks to strengthen a Chelsea side which finished a lowly 10th last season. The Swans won this fixture 1-0 last term thanks to a volley from Gylfi Sigurdsson, the Icelandic midfielder, earning the Welsh side their first league win against the Blues since 1981. There's also a chance to see all the goals and major incidents from Saturday's eight games.

Mark Chapman introduces highlights from today's two Premier League fixtures, along with all the goals from the rest of the weekend's games. Manchester City take on West Ham at the Etihad Stadium. Slaven Bilic's Hammers were 2-1 winners in last year's corresponding fixture, as Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho both scored for the visitors with Kevin de Bruyne supplying City's consolation. The day's other game sees West Brom take on Middlesbrough at the Hawthorns in the first top-flight meeting between the sides since January 2009. West Brom ran out 3-0 winners that day with their long-serving midfielder Chris Brunt amongst the goalscorers, against the club where his career began.

Manish Bhasin presents highlights of today's Premier League games, in which West Ham take on Bournemouth and Sunderland play Middlesbrough. It is West Ham's first league game at their new home, the former Olympic Stadium in Stratford, which boasts a capacity of 60,000 seats. The corresponding fixture last season produced a thrilling match, with Bournemouth winning 4-3 thanks to a Callum Wilson hat-trick. Newly promoted Middlesbrough make the trip to the Stadium of Light to face their north east rivals and are hoping to claim a first Premier League away win since 2008. Sunderland narrowly avoided relegation last season, and new boss David Moyes will be keen for his side to get points on the board early in the current campaign. There is also a look at all the goals and major incidents from the games which took place on Friday night and Saturday.

    21:30- 22:20

Manish Bhasin presents highlights of today's Premier League games between Bournemouth and Manchester United and Arsenal versus Liverpool.

The former match sees new United manager Jose Mourinho take charge of his first league game since succeeding Louis van Gaal. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss has wasted little time overhauling his squad, and could hand Premier League debuts to summer signings such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly.

Meanwhile at the Emirates, last season's runners-up Arsenal take on Liverpool. It is 12 years since the Gunners last won the league – and 26 years since the Merseysiders' last title triumph. Arsenal fans will hope the signing of Swiss international Granit Xhaka will give their midfield more bite this season – while Liverpool supporters will be expecting much from Senegalese forward Sadio Mane, who joined from Southampton this summer.

There's also a chance to see all the goals and major incidents from Saturday's games.

Mark Chapman presents highlights of today's Premier League games, with Liverpool travelling to Swansea, Manchester United hosting Leicester and Southampton at home to Manchester City. Leicester's remarkable form this season has seen them mount an unexpected title challenge. The Foxes have already claimed stunning wins against Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea this term, so they will fancy their chances of securing a first win away to the Red Devils since 1998. Manchester City make the long journey south to face a Southampton side who will be hoping to secure a top-half finish for a third year in a row. City were champions in 2012 and 2014 but have been too inconsistent this season to challenge for a third Premier League title. Nonetheless, outgoing Manuel Pellegrini will hope to guide his side to a top-four spot before handing over the managerial reins to Pep Guardiola in the summer.

    21:30- 22:20

Mark Chapman presents highlights from today's two Premier League matches and all the goals from yesterday's games. Leicester play Southampton, having fought back from 2-0 down to earn a point in the reverse fixture at St Mary's in October, a display which encapsulated their never-say-die approach that has put them firmly among the title contenders this season. In contrast, it has not been a vintage campaign by Manchester United's usual high standards. This afternoon the Reds host Everton, who have also underachieved so far this season. This fixture has thrown up some classic contests over the years, none more so that four years ago when the sides shared a 4-4 draw at Old Trafford.
